Craig Strong.......working a long 10 hour week! Blimey, the first post! So just to keep everyone thats interested informed of what im up to now............hello..........any body there........? :D Oh thanks mum!......anyways, a number of folk have posted various we know where he is now things around on similar sites, so, this is straight from the horses mouth!
Ill try and keep it short, you may know much of it anyway....
1980. Joined Radio Trent, which i had no real desire to do, but Guy Morris used to do an appearance at a club i was resident at,and decided to put me forward, much to my surprise, i got the gig, and was immediately sent on a radio course with Tony Lyman (Saga) and amonst others James Whale, (tv and various radio) We learnt how to take a record from a sleeve!! woo hoo !
After a year, they changed things a bit, and i was out, only to be bought back in, a couple of years later to host road shows, and some relief.
This led to a call from Dale Winton asking me to do his monday night show, which ultimately became the 12" show.
More followed on Trent Nottingham, and then the offer of doing the morning show on Trent Derby, which i took.
Trent 102.8 became Ram, i did the "hot 7 " slot (6 to 10 pm) and then onto the 10 till 2 sloppy bit, that was to be ultimately hosted by Graham Torrington.
Somewhere here, i did relief at Lincs fm, and also at Hereward Peterborough, and Chiltern Bedford, but took the offer of afternoons at Mercia in Coventry, which became mornings very quickly.
A year later and i was back doing relief in the Lincs group, which had me doing mainly mornings on both Trax's,and afters on Lincs itself.
Again, some time here i had a spell in "Thunderbird 1" doing traffic from an airplane for Leicester sound,Northants 96, and Wyvern? (cant remember!) Oh, i should have added, all the shows of my own on Trent, were simulcast on Leicester sound, and Trent Derby too.
now, all mixed in along the way, i did various RSL's for, in no order, Soul fm, Smooth , Trax ( before it won the licence) Pride fm, Erewash Sound
and others i cant recall!
I almost forgot to include Fosseway radio (sorry!) where i did my own "dance and disco" show, as well as relief, apologies to Ian there, who i turned down, re some relief recently!
A year of a ton of work at 106 Century fm in 99/2000 was undertaken, before the "take over" axe of Capital was felt by many there, me included, and back, once again to Lincs to do weekend evenings, and some stage shows.
This lasted for quite some time, before the accountants decide to make the staff presenters do an extra show a week, and relief folk like me left.
In all honesty, the mileage travelling back and forth was starting to pee me off a bit, so i wasnt that bothered about not doing it anymore, apart from that, i was dj'ing in the 70,s room at Love Shack in Rock City, where i started in '95, and only finished in 2006. Twelve solid years, missing only 3 fridays in all that time!!"
Simultaneously, i had been dj'ing at the National Ice Centre, where you will find me currently, weekend afternoons, and Wednesday and Friday nights, and loving all the long 10 hours!
Believe it or not, this is the short version, with loads left out, but im now getting wan.........just a tick....thats not how to spell it........oh got it now.....writers cramp!! :D
